The Life of Koi: Understanding The Upkeep of Koi Ponds And Water Gardens

Spring Is Here, What Do I Do Now?

Spring is here! That means the days are getting longer, the birds are chirping, flowers blooming and your pond is full of leaves and gunk! What’s going on? Well, in the Spring the water begins to warm up and we can see our ponds begin to come to life. This week our team have started cleaning the pondless features outside our office. Spring is an important time to get the pond going in the right direction for a rewarding season.

Anything you have done to winterize your pond, can be undone. You can turn on your pump, if you turned it off. Once the water temperature gets up to 50 degrees you can feed your fish again. Feed cold weather food until the water reaches 60 degrees at which point you can move to your full season feeding program.

Your pondless features’ pumps can be turned on. You can use a pond vacuum to remove leaves and gunk from your pond. You can add your water plants back into the pond.

I spent the morning watching some of my teammates working on cleaning and maintaining one of our pondless features up and running. I have posted the pictures below with instructions and product suggestions.

The team at Anjon used Rescue Rock and Waterfall Scrubber, which breaks down debris that forms on rocks and submerged surfaces. It controls and prevents a broad spectrum of debris that forms in water gardens, waterfalls, fountains and standing water. It’s a powerful oxidation reaction is fast-acting and effective; noticeable results in as little as 48 hours.
